1 Corinthians 11
1Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
Propriety in Worship
2I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings,[a] just as I passed them on to you.
3Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 4Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved. 6If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. 7A man ought not to cover his head,[b] since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. 8For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; 9neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.
11In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. 13Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.
The Lord's Supper
17In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good. 18In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it. 19No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God's approval. 20When you come together, it is not the Lord's Supper you eat, 21for as you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anybody else. One remains hungry, another gets drunk. 22Don't you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? Certainly not!
23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
27Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. 32When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
33So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for each other. 34If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment.
And when I come I will give further directions.

I Cor 11
Well!!!! v 2-16 - For me the take home message here is to Honor God. We live in a different time and place. Point is, God created us all and we all have the Holy Spirit in us.
v 17-34 give the simple reminder to remember to confess your sins. How often do we get so busy that we seem to just let our sin just slide by? I keep going back to Roans 14:12 guys. So then, each of us will give an account of HIMSELF to God. I have to believe based on this it is almost going to be like a one on one with a manager, but the ultimate manager. In the purpose driven life, Warren reminds us that when we sit on the judgment sit, God is going to ask us what we did with His son and what we did with what He gave us? I know I forget to repent way to often. Another interesting tid-bit someone passed along to me is how to really ask for forgiveness. If you tell someone you are sorry, you maintain control, but if you ASK SOMEONE FOR FORGIVENESS, you give the person you have sinned against the control to forgive you. Something to think about! I have to admit that on several instances now after learning this, I have had to go to my daughter (6 years old), my wife, my boss, someone who reports to me and so to ask the to forgive me for my behavior. No that is uncomfortable.
The ultimate take home from purpose driven; – Remember, it is not about you, and if you do not do anything else today, spend time loving God and loving others.
Father God, help us to remove all of our selfish feelings. Grow our hearts so that our main focus in life is to Honor You in all that we do. Let us live our lives in a way that people say “those guys are fully devoted followers of Christ”
In Christ Name,
cas
I have to echo many of cas' sentiments on this chapter. A lot of it (the gender issues)doesn't really either make sense to me or apply. I'm sure that the case can be translated somehow into the adornment of hats in this day and age.
Nonetheless, it does hit home that our first and primary goal ought to be to honor God, and to remember to ask for forgiveness from Him. I know that there are plenty of times, even today, when things have been on my mind, a situation I might not have handled in the best fashion, and realize that only God can judge me and forgive me, but I have to ask for forgiveness before I get it.
What I think about very often, right before communion, is the alternative paths my life could have taken without Jesus. While I know my sins are paid and I get to stand with Him on Judgement Day, it always makes me a little weepy when I consider where I could/would/should be without having ever met Him. That's when I recognize the true power of grace, to save a sorry sap like myself.
Lord, thank You so much for Your mercy and Your grace. Help me to remember the incredible work you've done in my life and let these memories shine through me and aid in sharing You with others.
In Jesus name,
Amen
