1 Timothy 2
Instructions on Worship
1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time. 7And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
8I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
9I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15But women[a] will be saved[b] through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

Ok, GUYS. what do we make of this? two areas that i am struggling with 1) women not allowed to Teach. When would this apply? in church? in busines? as teachers at school? 2) the last line make it seem that women are only saved if they have kids. again, maybe there is some contect here that i dont see. help!
1 Tim 2:
Tim, Less stunned, as I have read this before and knew of this verse, I am however, still in a dilemma as to understanding this, and can offer no answers. I can understand/modernize/place in a different context all but verse 12:
12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.
The only way this would make sense to me is if this was due to a civil law preventing from reading at the time, which would inherently mean, at that time, the women were less educated. I can't rationalize it or understand it any other way.
Any other thoughts?
Father, please continue to let us see, understand, and live these ideas which you set forth in Your word. Help pull the scales from our eyes, and clarify those things we aren't smart enough to understand. Continue watching over jrs, Eric, Stacie, and the new baby, Allyson, Tim and Sheree. Guide us towards You.
Amen

Sup fellas,
I agree the verse can seem troubling, but the life application commetary is pretty good at explaining it.
What is more noteworthy is the following
5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time.
Enough said.
Father, we know there is only one way. Help us stay strong and committed. Be crb and er's family. Watchover and direct them
In Christ,
cas
