Hebrews 8
The High Priest of a New Covenant
1The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man.
3Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. 4If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law. 5They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain."[a] 6But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.
7For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. 8But God found fault with the people and said[b]:
"The time is coming, declares the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah.
9It will not be like the covenant
I made with their forefathers
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,
and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.
10This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
11No longer will a man teach his neighbor,
or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,'
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more."[c]
13By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

Heb 8
Hope you guys had a nice weekend.
Interesting chapter for sure. Thank the Lord for grace and the new covenant. Sins forgotten forever! Being a sinner, being a slave to sin, but being forgiven is an amazing thing. I know I continue to struggle in many areas of my life, but I also know that I am trying to correct these things and that through God's grace and mercy I have a fighting chance to overcome these things.
Father, give us all the wisdom to make the right decisions. Help us fight the world's ways and strive to live according to Your will. Help us stay strong in our daily commitment to read and study. Help us implement the things we already know.
In Christ,
cas
Hi guys. hope all is well. Can someone expalin to me the "old covenant" versus the "new covenant"? I am pretty sure i understand the new covenant as Jesus as Savior and how He alone forgives. But what was the old covenant? thanks!
Yes, thank God for forgiveness. This passage shows that we have a compassionate and loving God. Personally, it would take alot for me to forgive someone, if they repeatedly disobey or dishonor me. Lord I ask that you touch my heart so that I will become a more faithful and obedient christian.
May you all have a bless day,

Heb 8
First of all, thank you all for your prayers, my toe is doing quite well, and feels better now than before the surgery.
First the chapter:
6But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.
This may be the understatement of the day, as Jesus is in fact our Savior providing access to the "better promises" and is "superior" to the old covenant. Without Christ, we would only be promised the past, we would have nothing to hope for, and since we could die any day, that would be the end, so we would "drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die", yet we DO have hope, and we do have a knowledge of the afterlife, thanks to our Lord and Savior Christ, who paid for our sins. Thus we have the most amazing promise ever, and all it takes is believing that Christ was the son of God, died for our sins, rose again and is still alive today, sitting next to our Father. That's "better promises" than the old covenant which is:
(and others feel free to jump in) follow the enormous set of rules that God had for the Jews, and if you did not screw up one time, then You would be allowed into Heaven. But no one was perfect and so each year they would sacrifice a perfect lamb which rolled back the sins for one year, and one year only. The payment for these sins was death, and because we came from Adam, we were all bound for death, as the original sin kept us all out of God's graces. But he still loved the Jews, but rules were rules. So the new covenant is different, but still based in the same thinking. Instead of having to sacrifice a lamb to roll the sins back one year, God sacrificed his Son, the most Perfect of Lambs, that we may have our sins wiped away forever, that they can be erased, and that because of Christ's sacrifice we get to meet God on the day of reckoning and have Him smile upon us.
Father, thank you for Your new covenant, thank you for giving us a chance to truly live, and thank You for sending your son to die so that we may live. Please watch over these men who have pushed me to be closer to You. We ask all these things in the name of the Perfect Lamb, Jesus
Amen
