Temptation

For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not [a]adjusted and [b]adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to [c]a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently. -- 1 Corinthians 10:13 (Amplified Bible)

Today’s devotion is a special word of encouragement for men. If you want to be the kind of man who wins in the race of life, it’s important to learn how to overcome temptation.

All of us naturally tend to either give in to temptation or try to fight it in our own strength. But God’s Word tells us that the only way we’ll ever overcome or defeat temptation is through Jesus Christ and His strength. That’s the only way!

You may be thinking that’s something only a preacher would say. But I deal with temptation just like everyone else! And if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that Jesus Christ is the only One who can help me overcome temptation.
Our verse today holds a great promise. God is faithful! He will show us how to overcome temptation.

I want to encourage you today: If you know Christ, you are not defeated! You are not a loser! God made you to win against temptation!

If you will only determine to be a man—or woman—of God, you can influence your family, friends, coworkers and communities for Christ. You can finish your race strong.

KEEP TODAY’S SCRIPTURE CLOSE BY FOR ENCOURAGEMENT AND STRENGTH TO OVERCOME TEMPTATION.

Greta verse. We memorized the NIV version in topgun. This is tough stuff and I could defintely learn to rely on Christ more. I also think that having an accountability partner is key and that you both are commitied to making it work. My prayer is that we all can overcome whatever temptations we face by learning to rely on Christ more and more.

Temptation...what can I say. As the verse states we are all tempted by something not christ like and the only way to finish strong is through Jesus Christ, since the devil is a smart guy. I agree with CAS and pray that if we are an accoutability partner that we are "strong" for our brother ... doing whatever it takes to make it work.

Has anyone seen anything written on how to do accountability? That would be very helpful.

gsiano,
Here is a link with some good resources on accountability http://hfbc-men.org/GrowthGroups.aspx

On the book front there are lots of good books that address this. One I have used is by Howard Hendricks called Iron Sharpens Iron.

As far as this verse goes, isn't the Truth true:) I know we all relate to this one. I would continue to ask for everyone's prayers for purity in heart. Apart from Christ I am totally lost in this battle. He is faithful to carry me, however, when I cry out to Him. No doubt, accountability is HUGE for every Christian man. That is one reason I believe it is so difficult to establish and maintain.

You all are prayed for today. Walk uprightly in His strength and freedom.

Blessings,
er

Over the course of my life, my brother has always encouraged me by saying "remember, God never gives you more than you can handle". i think that is what today's versus are saying. it is comforting to know, that no matter how bad things get, how tough times becoem, it is never more than what i can handle with God's help.

Temptation issure, but specific. We are not all tempted the same way, and satan customize his attack for each of us. Accountability is something that I had an abundance of in my younger days. It has been difficult since I and others have had kids and careers. Or at least that is my read on it. For whatever reason, accountability groups where you look others in the eyes have been short lived. Relying in the lord alone for his armor and for him to fight the battles is currently the form of battle
