When I was driving in today I heard a guy on the radio say something pretty convicting. He said that he was really trying to make an effort to enjoy everyday as a gift from God. He led into the comment referring to something as simply as just enjoying a conversation with his wife. This hit me really hard, as I all to often just try to rush through conversations with way to many people.
This ties in really nicely into the sermon we had at church on Sunday on contentment. I am always trying to fix things or make them better instead of just enjoying them for what they are. In Philippians, Paul tells us the secret to all things in verses 11-13
11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
Just remember 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.
Take time to pray about it and make a concerted effort to truly enjoy your day and show Christ's love!

What a goal, learn to be content with what ever you have and to show the kind of love described in verses 4-8.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 is one of the verses that we are going to have read during our wedding ceremony. Nice verse CAS.
Being content is something I strive for everyday.

Truly a challenge every day to be content..to be willing to accept that driver in front of you just likes to drive slower than you do, and not think badly of him/her.
Truly a challenge to accept the difficulties of the day as normal and routine.
Rushing from thing to thing is my speciality. I want to be more known with my wife and kids as someone who waited, when appropriate.

I was thinking about this subject a lot after Jerry Wilburn's Memorial service. How often I do not really take the time to listen or really find out how someone is doing...saying "how's it going" but not really caring about the answer and rushing on to the next activity.
Definitely an area I felt inspired to improve on and become a better listener and encourager.
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
For me, the challenge is not what I have or don't have, but being content in (and looking forward to) the circumstances of the day.

It's encouraging to see all the responses...CAS nice touch with the contentment focus. I pray that God would help me be aware of the times that I'm rushing the day along to get to something or some event that will bring me contentment instead of just slowing things down like JB said earlier and make the most of each moment/situation...
DSC, good to see you at the Memorial Service!! Jerry Wilburn was encouraging even in memorium. What a testimony. Very inspiring.
