Psalms 11-12 (NLT)

Psalm 11

For the choir director: A psalm of David.

1 I trust in the LORD for protection. So why do you say to me, "Fly to the mountains for safety!
2 The wicked are stringing their bows and setting their arrows in the bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those who do right.
3 The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?"
4 But the LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD still rules from heaven. He watches everything closely, examining everyone on earth.
5 The LORD examines both the righteous and the wicked. He hates everyone who loves violence.
6 He rains down blazing coals on the wicked, punishing them with burning sulfur and scorching winds.
7 For the LORD is righteous, and he loves justice. Those who do what is right will see his face.

Psalm 12

For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by an eight-stringed instrument.

1[a] Help, O LORD, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth!
2 Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and insincere hearts.
3 May the LORD bring their flattery to an end and silence their proud tongues.
4 They say, "We will lie to our hearts' content. Our lips are our own--who can stop us?"
5 The LORD replies, "I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do."
6 The LORD's promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over.
7 Therefore, LORD, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation,
8 even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land.

Not a ton jumped out at me. When I was glancing back over this, however, the first verse of 12 sorts struck a chord

1 I trust in the LORD for protection. So why do you say to me, "Fly to the mountains for safety!

Kinda reminds me of my walk sometimes. I pay lip service to the fact that I Trust in Him, but what happens in the crunch??? That is the real ?

Father, give us all the strnght to truly trust in You and rely on You nd You alone. Keep us all strong this week.

In Christ,
cas

On 9-11, many wondered, and may still, how such a thing could happen. But we are assured that the Lord is in His temple and remains sovereign over all.

Lord, bless us all today and bring comfort to those who mourn the lost. Protect us; hold us in your hand and grant us mercy. In the one and only name of Christ. Amen.

One more thing.

Max Lucado wrote a great prayer on the first anniversary of 9-11. You can find it here: http://www.maxlucado.net/pdf/do.it.again.pdf

Good day, Brothers.

This one also hit me, I certainly trust in the Lord, but sometimes my actions don't reflect that trust. This verse reminded me that we can stand our ground, make no action, other than being faithful.

Father, thank You for delivering me once again through a difficult project. When all else seemed bleak, You heard my prayers and those around me. To You goes all the praise. Continue watching over ELB, and let her teeth come through as painlessly as possible. Continue watching over these men and this great country.
In Jesus' Name,
Amen

I agree with DSC, 9/11 really gives meaning to this passage.

Lord, on this day of rememberance, I pray that more people will remember Jesus and how he died for all of sins and watch over and protect us from all the evil around us.

Amen, LT

like many of you, this verse jumps out. Like CAS - i can pay lip service and then when things get tough, i find protection in many ways (not just God).

God, grant us the ability to find protection in you. Let us not run or hide from our fears but confront them with you as our unbreakable shield.
