James 1 v 22-27 (NLT)

22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
26 If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. 27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

Wow. Controlling my tongue! Ouch.

Father God, help me better control my tongue.

sadly, v22 hits too close to home far too often.

Father let me live your word, not just read it.
In Jesus name,
Amen

"the perfect law that sets you free"
I need to meditate on this daily. It is so counter-intuitive to how I have been raised. Rarely do I think of laws that make me free.

"pure and genuine religion...means caring for orphans and widows...and refusing to let the world corrupt you"
I know easily see the latter as important in my life, but the struggle is to be engaged as a man for the fight for others well-being. A real challenge.

God, continue to lead us and exhort us toward being the men you created us to be. In Christ's name,

This sounds like the battle of the left side of my brain versus the right side of my brain. I need to balance both of them making sure that I am thinking positive all the time.

God, let me take control of myself, help me take control of myself and rid the negative conversations within my head.
