Acts 2 v42-47 (NLT)

Question: Are you devoted to teaching, fellowship and sharing meals?

The Believers Form a Community

42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper[i]), and to prayer.
43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity[j]—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

This is one of my favorite passages. Our society is so self centered, it is hard to imagine doing this. But imagine how uplifting it must have been to lived during this time of fellowship and giving. I often wonder what it would be like to live in an enviroment where there was much more focus on doing this. We are having a 3 part lesson at church about the dinner table and here are the verses that describe what it should be like to a T.

So, to answer the ? - Yes to teaching. No to the others. I want it, but seem to not have the motivation to organize it. JMB lives 2 minutes away and I still find it difficult to plan something. I guess the only way is to dedicate yourself to making it part of your weekly routine.

Father, give me and my family the desire and motivation to engage in fellowship and sharing of meals.

Agree with CAS. I wonder how many of us will sell our property and possessions and share it with the those in need. I know I would have a hard time selling something that I "value" in order to share it with others less fortunate than me. People often give away stuff that they do not want or no longer need (I'm guilty) but I pray for a spirit that If I am call to share something very valuable to me that I would do it with a loving spirit.

Lord, a simple pray ... a christ like heart.

Amen, LT

I am very fortunate to have a loving wife who is definitely gifted in this area. While we often open our home for meals, it's probably not in the same vein as this passage. But we also spend a lot of time and effort preparing meals for Young Life, church, and "friends in need". My problem is that I'm sometimes inconvenienced by this (here comes the guilt). But this passage reminds me that it's His anyway and Shelly is simply glorifying that. Amen.

We are still strangers in this land. We do not have any family here and have had a very difficult time making close friends, even after 5 years.

I have been recently convicted that we need to take a more active role in inviting others over and making this a bigger part of our life.

Hopefully God will bless my wife for these efforts.
